Use The Energy From The Sun To Power A Solar Fountain

Article by Jason Calvert

If you want a impressive solar project you can make your own solar fountain in a weekend. Solar fountains are easy enough that you can build it by yourself or with the kids. Let’s go over the basics of this simple process.First, choose your design. Your design may include a several levels or a waterfall, maybe even a geyser and stream. Browse the internet for design ideas to help you better plan the size, shape, and style of your fountain. Another part of your design process is to decide if your solar fountain is going to be permanent or a portable installation. Now you are ready to pick a pump for your solar fountain. You will need to determine the number of gallons per minute and the vertical lift of the water that your pump will need to handle, based on the volume and height of your fountain’s design. A tall large waterfall fountain will require a more powerful pump than a smaller and lower babbling brook design. Choose a model that is designed to be immersed completely in water and runs on direct (DC) current. The amount of sunlight your fountain receives and the energy requirements of your pump will determine the size of the solar panel. If your solar fountain will be located in a shaded area or if you need to pump a large volume of water then you need a larger panel. Of course you can use a smaller panel if you want to slow down the pump, or if your fountain gets lots of direct sunlight every day. Before you connect the pump and solar panel, or install your fountain permanently, assemble the components (if it has several tiers or basins) and hook up the plumbing. It’s a great idea to test for leaks and flow problems. Pour enough water through it, using a bucket or hose, to make sure that it works as intended. If your flow test is successful then it’s time to hook up the solar panels and the pump. You will find that your fountain will speed up and slow down depending on how you position your solar panel. Now that you you’ve tested the system your ready for your final installation. When your done grab a chair and beverage and enjoy your hard work.

Indoor Floor Fountains – Elegant and Serene
old bucket fountains

Article by Michael Clark

Adding a water feature to the inside your home is a unique and fun way to bring in a little of the great outdoors. There are a number of different ways you can add water to decorate your home and one of the simplest ways to achieve it is the addition of one of the many indoor floor fountains available on the market today. Over recent years, water features have become quite common in outdoor landscaping and are utilized often on the patio, in the garden, and the swimming pool. However, by placing one of these items inside your home, you may very well be the first on the block to discover that these fountains provide the same soothing qualities indoors as they do out.

One of the great things about adding a water feature inside your home is that there are practically no limitations as to where they can be placed. Since most indoor water fountains operate on normal electrical house current, you can place your fountain anywhere as long as you are within the reach of an electrical outlet. These fountains are available in numerous different designs and are made of a variety of materials, which allows you to match most any style you may choose for your home decor. There are many smaller models manufactured that take up very little floor space thus allowing you to place them in even the smallest of entry halls.

Not only do indoor water fountains add the beautifying effects of water, but many fountains also have some type of lighting as an additional benefit. Again, no special wiring is required for this added feature as the lights normally operate from the same power source as the fountain itself. With the development of modern LED lighting fixtures, you can have lights that change color, thus adding another special and unique effect to any area of your home and do so using very little energy.

While many people choose their indoor water features as the waterfall type, you can have most any type that you desire. If you prefer water being pumped vertically and flowing over stones or a marble ball and falling gently into a copper bucket, I am sure you can find a fountain on the market that will closely resemble what you are seeking. Even if the exact indoor water feature you have in mind is not out there, the parts to custom design and build your own are readily available either on the internet or at your local home improvement store.

The components of indoor floor fountains are actually quite few and simple in their operation. To construct your own water fountain, an electric pump, the tubing to direct the water where you want it to go, and a container to hold the circulating water make up all the components necessary for its function. Add a spout of some sort such as bamboo or an old time water pump, a few stones for the water to flow over and you can pronounce yourself as the architect of your very own indoor water fountain.

old bucket fountains question by Viceroy: Why is Buckingham Palace so ugly?
I often wondered, with England’s reputation for beautiful hedges and plants (and a climate ideally suited for growing lush greenery) why Buckingham Palace is so ugly.

The building itself is fine as a “palace”, but it has that huge paved area in front of it, in front of that a large paved pedestrian area, then a huge paved round-a-bout. All of that together apears to be about a quarter mile of pavement in front of the Palace!

I always assumed “well, all the manicured box-hedges, statues and fountains must be behind the Palace, in the non public area. Nope. Did a google search, and the building is a square with a courtyard in the middle (also lacking the expected pathways, flower beds, ponds, etc) and behind the palace is a staircase that leads down to…a back yard. That’s it! Just a large expanse of grass, that was even brown in patches. I know Windsor and Balmoral are much more elaborate, but since Buckingham Palace is in London and the Queen’s official residence, (and the destination of many, many tourists) wouldn’t some english hedges and english roses dress up close to the building make it look much more appropriate? (I know that part of it the area is a parade ground, but they have that in front of parliament in Canada, and they do it on grass…so they could do it in England too.

Also, to quickly shoot down “they keep it clear so that no one can sneak in”, picture the White House, the home of the leader of the free world, and how it is manicured with lawns, trees, rose gardens, etc, and no one sneaks in there. But they have snuck in Buckingham Palace even lacking any landscaping. (Also, there seems to be some random trees on the sides of Buckingham Palace, so a “no trees allowed near the Palace couldn’t be the reason.)

Imagine the palace, with beautiful english oaks, some sculpted hedeges along the driveway entrance, and a lush green lawn and fountains. More like Versailles and less like a old library or prison.

No wonder Diana hated it so much. She spoke of grey buildings, grey halls, grey weather and old grey men lurking about. Let’s spruce up the curb appeal of the Palace! Open up your little purse, Your Majesty, and plant some freaking shrubs! Your house looks like an abandoned asylum! ;)

Please google an aerial photo before answering so you can see what I mean rather than answering based on patriotism or your opinion of the Royal Family. I am a fan of the Royal Family, and I think they deserve a more “grand” Palacial appearance to the outside of their home. Also the cost would be a drop in the bucket compared to other issues, so please no “it would cost too much” answers. The increase in tourism and national pride would outweigh any monetary costs. Thanks again!

Thanks!
Amazing how many people answered without reading. To address AGAIN the main points:

A) The BUILDING is fine. I meant the front and back yards.
B) You CAN troup the colours on the lawn, they do it all the time in Canada and USA.
C) I KNOW it is in London. There are trees along the sides, etc. I’m talking about tasteful , even MINIMAL landscaping around the big gray slab.
D) I LOOKED AT IT FROM GOOGLE EARTH. THERE ISN’T any large, extravagant gardens fountains pathways in the back. LOOK before you criticise.
E) Security is NOT a factor. Again, I point to the white house with its bushes, trees, gardens, etc.
F) Many people’s answer were more or less “because it’s in LONDON, duh”. So what???? The White House is RIGHT in the middle off downtown Washington DC and they found are able to plant flowers and hedges, etc.

SO, if your answer is any off the above, they have been debunked. I want to know an ACTUAL reason that they’ve made it look as much like a vacant museum as possible without A

Uses of Pumps at Home
bucket and faucet fountain

Article by Waker Glass

You may not know it but water pumps are used in many areas of your homes. What they do is that they draw out water from one place and put it into another place. If you have a well and you don’t want to manually get water from it, all you need is to use pump and the pump will automatically bring water to your storage tank or directly to your faucet. It is an engineering feat that makes our lives easier. Some of the uses of pumps at home are for the fish tank and for the garden.Do you have an aquarium or a fish tank at home? Most aquariums are equipped with pumps. They make sure that the water inside the tank is always fresh. This is very important equipment especially if you take care of fishes that came from river and other fresh bodies of water. The equipment makes sure that the water circulates but will not produce current or waves. Even large aquariums depend on this equipment so that they don’t need to use bucket to replace water in the tank. There are many kinds of pumps for the aquarium.Another use of pump at home is for the small fountain and pond in the garden. A simple garden becomes special when there is small fountain in the center. You can buy all the materials needed to install this in your garden from your local store or even in online hardware stores. When you decide to install this at home, you don’t need an expensive pump. Something that can give 120 GPH (gallons of water per hour) is good enough. Ponds are also wonderful addition to the landscape and water pump is also necessary for them. There are also many selections for this kind of equipment if you want to improve your garden.

Fountains Outdoor – Five Top Tips to Help You Save Money
tipping bucket fountain

Article by Linda Tauber

Have you fallen in love with the idea of getting an outdoor fountain for your home, but you just don’t think you can afford it? Think again! Here are five top tips to help you save money on outdoor fountains.

1. Consider Clearance Sales. While it’s true you won’t get quite the selection you’ll find at the beginning of the spring and outdoor gardening season, getting an outdoor fountain at the end of the season often means you can find it for a real steal. Clearance sales on things like outdoor fountains and other garden and patio items generally start as early as late June as stores clear space to start stocking fall items, which means you’ll still have plenty of time to purchase your outdoor fountain at an incredible price and enjoy it for the remainder of the season.

2. Look For Special Offers. Many online shops offer outdoor fountains at sale or discount prices and include special offers-like free shipping, no sales tax if you’re buying from another state or other freebies with your order. Sometimes those special offers or incentives can make a huge difference in the overall cost of your outdoor fountain, especially if you are purchasing a fountain made of a heavy material.

3. Consider Alternate Materials. While you may love the look of granite, marble, or other stone-or even beautiful solid concrete fountains, there are many newer fiberglass outdoor fountains made to look like stone or concrete, available for a fraction of the price-and they’re much cheaper to ship and install, as well, since they weigh a whole lot less than the real thing! If your outdoor fountain will be located within a landscaped area, it’s very unlikely anyone will be able to tell the difference between the real stone fountain and the fiberglass faux stone outdoor fountain, so consider alternative materials.

4. Create Your Own. Who says you can’t purchase an inexpensive outdoor fountain and then make it your own? With an inexpensive fountain (or a fountain kit), you’ll get the water pump, tubing, and other basics needed to make your fountain functional. Then you can modify-or even replace-the basin used to hold the water and the various other pieces that make your outdoor fountain eye catching and unique. You can use real rocks, galvanized steel buckets, flower pots, watering cans, water barrels, vintage cookware, ceramic bowls, or any other objects you like to create a one-of-a-kind outdoor fountain for a fraction of the price of an expensive outdoor fountain. Collect your own river stones or purchase small bags of polished stones from the local dollar store to add more texture and depth to your fountain and create a smooth trickling effect. You can use marbles or colored resin stones as an alternative, as well. They can also be used to hide the water pump.

5. Revamp An Existing Fountain. Similar to creating your own, if part of an existing fountain has broken, you can use the remaining parts to revamp it and give it a new style altogether. No need to throw it out! You can also look for used outdoor fountains at yard sales-often in less than perfect condition-and do the same thing.

With these great ideas to get you started, you’ll soon be enjoying your new outdoor fountain in your yard or on your patio-and the serenity of that trickling or cascading water will be even sweeter when you realize you saved big bucks getting it.

tipping bucket fountain question by jessica c: Syphon Sandblaster Problem?
Well i just broke out the sandblaster that my dad has had for a couple of years but has never used. We have a 5hp 50 gallon compressor. I started using it to strip down a rollbar for my truck and it worked for a little while using up about a half a bag of playsand but now its not picking the sand up anymore. Instead it just blows through the tube and sprays the sand in the bucket up like a fountain. I took the tip of the gun off to make sure there is no blockages and it seems to be clear, and there are no moving parts so i have no idea whats going on.

tipping bucket fountain best answer:

Answer by gonefishin
a little trick i learned is take hose off at the gun, put the tip of the gun in the hose and blow through the hose into the bucket it will clean any blockages. play sand also is not a good blasting medium. if it is even a little damp it will not work right, all blasting sand is very prone to picking moisture. its best to use a sand from an auto body supply store. it also helps to keep the bucket more than half full. also the air compressor you are using will run out of air pressure very fast you have to let it build back up pressure often. that size you will be lucky to blast for 30 seconds to a minute and you will loose a lot of pressure you need like 80 pounds press. to blast effectively , take breaks often let it build up then go at it again

Since you have taken made the effort to make a beautiful garden, you definitely want to make the very best use of it. The installation of an Outdoor Water Fountain is is really the right thing to ensure that you are able to transform any garden into an exceptional escape. Through just the right feeling in the garden, the chirping of birds, as well as the tinkling of the water from your Outdoor Water Fountain, you're sure to find yourself and your family spending much more time outside.
