There are a number of different Sunterra brand pumps, all with different capacities. It is hard to determine which one you need. Maybe this will help. This one pumps through an algae light, about fifteen feet of 1/2″ tubing, three 90 degree fittings and up through a fountain that is about two feet tall. The water squirts up almost two feet above that, through three nozzles. This is at the pump’s maximum flow setting. Perfect! I kind of had to guess which one to order and was a little worried because I wouldn’t return a used pump if it was my mistake.

Note that small pumps are sensitive to sharp turns in fittings, various filters, any sort of kink in the tubing and the length of the tubing, and of course the height of any fountain.

It is quiet and comes with a nicely coiled and quite long cord. I particularly like the three screw-in adaptors for different sized hose. It fits the Sunterra brand hose (reviewed not so favorably by me).

I have the pump mounted in the recommended Sunterra filter box and that is a nice and simple way to do it. My big pond required a big remote pump and lots of fancy piping. This is a lot easier.

Note that the adapter is straight up and the tubing will not bend 90 degrees, so that if your pond is not deep (and it shouldn’t be with this little pump) the tubing will arc way up out of the water and look bad. I used a short piece of tubing and a 90 degree el to get the tubing to stay under water on its way out of the pond to the UV light. You might look into some of the fittings this company offers.

Sunterra is, I believe, a Bosch company and so I have faith that this is going to be a reliable pump as long as the filter box is kept clean and the water level is maintained.

I wanted to replace my original resin fountain that broke due to an ice storm with a nice feature. Originally I knew I wanted to push water up about 3 feet and have a single vase fountain – but as I designed my feature I determined I wanted a bit more ‘show’. Thats when I found this baby – it met all my needs when it stated it could push water vertically up to 8′. My two vase fountains are about 5′ total in height and I have about 3′ of connecting tubing so I thought I’d just get a nice minimal spray when I set the pump on full. When I plugged the pump in I was supprized to see the two vase fountains shoot about 2′ into the air. I had to reduce the intake to half to get a spray that looked great with the feature. Really happy with this pump!Sunterra 137016 Extra Large Fountain Pump, 320 GPH, Black

I searched all of the supply houses for a replacement pump for a fountain I had purchased some time ago. For the fountain to function properly, I needed the exact pump or be faced with a lot of replumbing. Amazon’s search engine made it almost effortless. Oh yeah, the quality of sunterra’s products are great too.

As the other reviews had indicated, it has 3 adapters for different tubing sizes and has adjustable water flow rate. This pump replaced the original for a two tier fountain that needed to pump approximately 36+ inches vertically. The fountain uses the smallest tubing adapter and even on the lowest flow setting, it pumped too much water for the upper tier to reserve. I fashioned a restrictor from a smaller piece of tubing and was able to achieve the desire flow rate of water. Overall a good pump, though, it was over the top for my application … I could have used the next smaller GPH pump for my fountain … still, a good choice.

I bought a 3-tiered fountain a few months ago – and the pump died recently. This pump is much better and more robust than the one included with the fountain. I especially like the extra long power cord and different outlet fittings to accommodate different size tubing. Not much else to say – this is a great pump at a great price.

I purchased this foundation because the pump on my previous fountain burned out. After 8 years it was going strong-I never even cleaned it- but I accidently left it running without enough water. My old fountain was also made by Homedics. I was so happy with it I searched Homedics for another one. This fountain is what I found, and from the picture, it looked close to the one I had so I quickly ordered it. When it arrived, much to my shock and horror, I couldn’t believe how cheap this one looks and how poorly it is made. I would have returned it if I had kept the box and package materials upon my initial reaction. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt, put it together and displayed it for a week or so until I ended throwing it away because it just looked horrible. $20 wasted but at least I am rid of this atrocity.

I have distinguished the differences which led to my dissatisfaction with this fountain as compared to my old one:

    Base:

Old one: metal base. New one is plastic and smaller. The water reservoir bowl holds less water and you’ll have to refill more often.

    Slate tiers:

The slate tiers on the older were built-in all the way around the fountain making the top portion very sturdy and can be displayed from any angle.

On this version, you have to manually insert the slate tiers. Incredibly, the tiers only go on the front of the fountain allowing the mechanical portions exposed on the back and sides. Therefore, this fountain must be placed with its back against something to conceal the exposed areas. And don’t even think about displaying it in front of a mirror (as my old one was displayed) because the back will be reflected and thus seen. I added LOTS more rocks and seashells to try to cover up the exposed areas but it still looks ugly.

    Construction:

The older model was built sturdier. The slate top portion was all one piece.

Assembly is required on this newer one as much of it comes in pieces.

    Pump:

Old one had a much more powerful pump: 18 watts. The water flowed out from it.

This new pump is only 4 watts; the water only to trickles out. The motor is quiet but then of course it is at only 4 watts!! I am surprised it can pump any water through at all. Not to mention, I am sure it will not last long; a 4 watt motor isn’t built for longevity.

    Light:

The new one has a bulb about half the size and over half as bright as the older one–think 18 watt bulb as compared to a 4 watt bulb. No comparison. The light on my old fountain would light up the surrounding area. This one can barely light the fountain itself. Thankfully, the light still works on my old founttain.

    Conclusion:

I point out the differences not because consumers can do anything about it–the new fountain is what it is, take it or leave it. But as the adage goes, “You get what you pay for” and I want to caution you on what you are actually getting.

It is a shame this company took the cheap route and opted for revenue over quality because their older fountain was marvelous and stylish. I was heart-broken when it died. After I saw what this company is producing now, I scoured the internet (including eBay) to see if I could find an older one. Once you have seen how nice a good water fountain can be it is very difficult to accept anything less. I would pay three times as much to have my old fountain back. Unfortunately this is what companies like Homedics don’t understand. People will pay more for quality if given the opportunity. I’d rather spend $60 dollars to have a nice fountain than $20 on a piece of plastic junk. Homediscs has lost my business until they produce better quality items.

I read the other reviews, which were mostly positive. Based on the negative reviews, I had some concern about the appearance of the fountain and the amount of noise it might make. After actually buying and setting it up, I am quite satisfied with the fountain. It is more solid-feeling than I expected, was easy to set up, runs quietly, and actually looks nice. The box included plenty of smooth rocks, which I have supplemented with some rocks and shells from the beach. As noted in other reviews, it is a one-sided fountain, i.e. it is intended to be viewed from one side– this works quite well on a shelf or against a wall, but might not work so well on a table where it could be viewed from all sides. A couple of minor issues: to adjust the pump speed, you have to take out all the rocks and slates to reach the pump. And, I have not (yet) had to clean it, but again, will have to take everything out to do so. Overall, this purchase exceeded my expectations for the price.

I have been using this water fountain for over 3 months and really loved it. I have read some other reviews of how it was made and it’s features. They’re all true. To me, I’m looking for 2 things: What does it look like and does it work well. This water fountain satisfies my requirements. So for that matter, I don’t care if it was made of plastic or steel. the assembly was simpble. When in operation, the unit is totally quiet. No humming or shaking noise from the pump. The only noise I hear is the water cascading down the slates.

I just got my fountain today and the setup was simple and easy.the fountain is a good size and the (black)slate plates are nice. The rocks are ok but “I” would like more for the bottom to lower minor water sprinkle.Very low noise of the pump even with the high flow. I had some extra stick-on rubber bumpers and put them on the bottom of the base which is made of plastic and now no vibrations at all, you can also use those stick-on felt pads. The light is good if your in a very dark, dark room but works more like a night light.Oh almost forgot I LOVE IT! hey I think Ill get one more since Im here.

This fountain makes plenty of gurgling water noise, which was my main concern. I am pleased that the water noise covers up the humming of the motor. You must obey the notices all over the packaging that tell you how to minimize pump noise: clean the fountain occasionally and keep it filled. I’ve also set mine on a padded surface, which helps. I can’t speak to the longevity of the pump because I have only had my fountain for a month. My only minor criticism is that more water flows down one side of the fountain than the other. Considering that some fountains are hundreds of dollars, I’d say that this is an excellent “lower-end” model.
