Question by AlexAlex’s 2nd account!: Will drinking water with drywall mud in it hurt my cat?
We are building a new wall in the house, and my boyfriend left a water bucket out overnight. The water has a thin layer of drywall mud in the bottom, and ever since that first night, the cats have been drinking that water exclusively. They haven’t touched their water fountain in the kitchen. They aren’t acting funny, and since the bucket is really heavy and we’ll need it some more, we’ve just left it out. Drinking that water won’t hurt them, will it? Any ideas about why they like it so much? I thought that it might be because it tastes more natural with that rocky stuff in it. Any input?

When you have taken the time to build an extraordinary garden, you definitely want to make the best use of it. The addition of an Outdoor Water Fountain is exactly the best thing to make sure that you are able to change any garden into an one-of-a-kind getaway. By way of just the right ambience in the garden, the tweeting of birds, and the streaming of the water from the Outdoor Water Fountain, you are bound to find yourself along with your family spending more and more time out-of-doors.

YES,YES,YES, TAKE HIM TO THE VET ASAP!
yes
I wouldn’t go running to the vet just yet. All purpose joint compound is made up mostly of limestone. There is also a bit of attapulgite, which is a magnesium-aluminum compound often used for the treatment of diarrhea. There are some small quantities of some chemicals that give the mix plasticity. Most of these things settle to the bottom of the bucket fairly quickly. A bit of the lime will remain dissolved in the water, which will change the taste a bit and is probably the reason the cats are preferring this over the fountain water. None of the ingredients should be present in the water in strong enough concentrations to cause a problem.
Just to be sure, I pulled up the material safety data sheets (MSDS) for a couple of different brands. Under the potential health effects for ingestion, both indicate “none known”. If you want to be certain, do a web search for the brand of compound you have and “MSDS”.
The bigger hazard I see here is the possibility for drowning. As unlikely as it seems, I can’t tell you how many small animals I have seen drowned in a bucket of water like this. If you don’t want to empty the bucket, put a lid on it just to be safe.
